Artificial Intelligence Feature on WhatsApp

WhatsApp now offers an optional Artificial Intelligence (AI) feature called Meta AI, allowing users to interact directly with a virtual assistant within the application. Meta AI provides various services, including answering questions, generating texts, translating text, summarizing long pieces of text, offering suggestions for proofreading, helping with planning and organizing, talking about shared interests, and creating AI-generated images in chats. The Tanzania Privacy Professionals Association (TPPA) recognizes the need to raise awareness about new technological developments and their impact on data protection and privacy. Ethical considerations include keeping conversations secure and private, complying with PDPA and other relevant laws, using Meta AI to enhance communication, adding value for businesses, avoiding including sensitive information in chats, limiting WhatsApp use for official matters, updating internal data protection policies, and not sharing identifying information in AI chats. TPPA remains available to offer advice and professional support on how to navigate the increasing presence of AI and emerging technologies in the workplace, home environment, and other aspects of life.

Diverse Minds, Unified

Data protection has become an imperative for every sector and profession in Tanzania. From healthcare providers handling sensitive medical records to financial institutions safeguarding customer transactions, the responsible handling of personal information is paramount.

Building a Connected and Strong Network of Privacy Professionals

The relationship between TPPA and PDPC is crucial for advancing data privacy initiatives. This partnership indicates a collaborative approach to addressing privacy challenges and demonstrates PDPC’s commitment to working closely with TPPA. The pressing demand for training in data privacy underscores a gap in knowledge and skills among professionals in the field. PDPC’s trust in TPPA to lead the training initiatives not only positions TPPA as a leader in data privacy education but also emphasizes the need for a wellinformed workforce.
